Leslie Clark, Bible Worker
There are five essential elements in discipleship: Evangelism, Fellowship, Teaching, Training, and Prayer.
Evangelism - It has been said that “discipleship without evangelism is just counseling." Evangelism, a calling on all Christians, is all about love and sharing the Word of God with others.
Fellowship - We share our lives with others and also with Christ who promises to be with us when even two or three are gathered together in His name (Matthew 18:20). Fellowship with Christ and other believers involves feeding on the Word together.
Teaching - Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ. (Acts 5:42). Teaching someone Scripture helps develop heart, mind, vision, and character.
Training - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16,17). This element deals with training someone how to minister to others.
Prayer - A discipler should pray regularly for his
or her disciples, as well as pray with them.
By pouring into a few, developing them in the character and actions
of Jesus, and equipping them to develop others, we can be used by
God to make a great impact in reaching the world for Christ.
