Introduction: First Church Pathfinders Club “SpartoAthenians”
Pathfinders are a worldwide organization of young people sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, though young people in 5th through 8th grades of any religious affiliation, or none at all, are welcome and encouraged to join the organization. Pathfinders offer a wide range of activities including but not limited to camping, and performing community service activities such as helping in soup kitchens, collecting food for the disadvantaged, visiting the elderly, participating in parades, and color guard and drum corps competitions. Interactive training in a variety of recreational, artistic, nature, conservation, vocational, and outreach areas, with awards (honors) are given for successful completion of the interaction training modules. There are also leadership opportunities for Pathfinders in high school.
The Pathfinder Club of the First Church of the Seventh-day Adventists is called SPARTOATHENIANS. A breakdown of the word indicates that Spartans were the warriors of Rome and Athenians were the wise men of Greece. Combined SpartoAthenians means The Warriors of Wisdom. First church Pathfinders has a long history of excellence, winning numerous competitions such as color guard, drum core, Club of the Year, and best parade presentation! They have participated in community service activities such as the soup kitchen, preparing and distributing food to the homeless around the city, preparing Thanksgiving baskets for the surrounding community and church family, and visiting nursing homes. Many of our directors have also helped train other clubs throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. The Pathfinder experience helps to build strong character and leadership qualities in young people! Many of our former directors and members have become accountants, teachers, nurses, church conference leaders, pastors, fire department chiefs as well as other professions.
